night way. you are wrong, neil. >>neil: now you are putting a mitt romney on me. >>guest: i am saying, this is more a matter of enthusiasm in the two bases. when a candidate doesn't perform well in a debate, it reduces the enthusiasm of his party supporters because they are looking and they are not saying the person they thought they were backing. take the other side of the coin, when people from the other party view their candidate and they see their candidate performing to an excellent degree, they enthused, excited, they are going do spend more time and of the campaigning. they will spend more time convincing friends and relatives to vote so it is more a battle of the two party bases and more about enthusiasm. >>neil: so now the pressure will be on next week's vice presidential debate on the next presidential debate where a lot of president obama supporters will say you better come out swinging, you better do what ronald reagan did after a lackluster opening debate with mondale. i don't know whether he does it with aject -- a joke or a quick zinger at ronald reagan did but i

, after the debate on wednesday night, where mitt romney seemed to -- can we pull up that poll? 72 percent of the people think that mitt romney actually won the debate and only 20 percent believe that president obama won that debate. after that debate, literally the next morning, they were calling mitt romney a liar, the campaign and the democratic groups saying he is a liar, he made the numbers up, the facts up. if paul ryan is smart, he will go right at the numbers and say, let's talk numbers. doesn't paul ryan have an advantage if they talk numbers? >>guest: there is no doubt about that. he is an excellent explainer, particularly as i said in the economic and budgetary issues. i think if joe biden is smart, he will try to pull this discussion as much as possible into some extraneous issues like the war on women type of stuff and foreign policy. there is something of a hurdle for paul ryan to get over in this debate, to sort of passion just the basic eye test on foreign policy for a vice presidential nominee. i think that biden, look, there has been so much out there that paul ry

the races. i hope and i want to see that tomorrow night. will i? >>guest: i don't know if you will or not. i have been waiting for romney to come hitting the growth agenda and low rate flat tax-and-spending reductions and the other ways of bringing the national debt down. i have not seen it. the 4 percent tax rate came out i thought he said he was proud of paying 14 percent and everyone else should pay 14 percent. i shouldn't be the only one paying 14 percent. he did not do it that way. i hope this time he does. if he does the growth message like ronald reagan, he could win the election but it has to be truly credible and not appear as though he is apologetic. >>neil: what i learned on fox business network talking to these two retired senators, they recognize how surprisingly easy it is just to talk about a democrat in the indicate of sam nunn, slowing down the growth of entitlements and from senator bennett, a republican, closing loop hes and credits that allow some not to pay taxes at all. ronald reagan would tell you, it is not a tax hike. however, we get so dog mattic and fixed

romney, 49, and president obama 47. >>guest: it is important to note this poll and all the one we are talking about we did last night after the debate was finished. a month ago, president obama was leading by to points in the great state of florida this is a state romney has to win. again, we are seeing a modest shift. with a four-point shift and it goes from obama up by two, to romney up by two, it is significant. >> now the great state of ohio, that poll, i saw it was obama by 8 percent or 9 percent. there is volatility in the polls. when george bush was running it showed he was up by eight or ten and in ohio he won by two. president obama has been ahead in ohio a state that mitt romney has been struggling. right now, romney is still down by a point there. but it is a competitive situation. the fact is, all three of these states have nobody, really, in the lead. they are pure toss ups. the question is whether this is just a bounce that will fade or is it something that mitt romney can build upon and carry through the remaining month. >> now, someone from real clear politics said may

if romney does it again. that could be what happens. in 1984 there was a huge debate audience for the second because people wanted it see whether reagan really lost it or just had a bad night in the first debate with mondale. this is, i think, it will be a big audience because obama people and other voters want to see if it is for real. >>neil: thank you. big bird, grow up, don't have a fit over mitt, fly free from washington. ♪ [ male announcer ] how do you make 70,000 trades a second... ♪ reach one customer at a time? ♪ or help doctors turn billions of bytes of shared information... ♪ into a fifth anniversary of remission? ♪ whatever your business challenge, dell has the technology and services to help you solve it. syou know, i've helped a lot off people save a lot of money. but today...( sfx: loud noise of large metal object hitting the ground) things have been a little strange.
